Do I need a paid Notion account to connect it to Claude?

No. Notion's free plan is enough. The MCP connection itself does not cost anything on top of your existing Notion plan.

How do I connect Notion to Claude Code?

Run the http transport install command for the official Notion MCP server, then send any prompt that touches Notion. A browser window opens asking you to sign in and pick which pages or databases to share, and after that first approval Claude can use them in every later session.

Can Claude see my entire Notion workspace?

No. During the authorization step you choose exactly which pages and databases to expose. You can scope it down to a single folder if you want to keep everything else private.

Can Claude write to Notion, or only read?

Both. Once connected, Claude can create, edit, and delete content in whatever pages and databases you granted access to, not just read from them.

Is this the same as the Notion AI features inside Notion itself?

No. Notion AI runs inside the Notion app. The Notion MCP server is a separate connector that lets an outside AI assistant, in this case Claude, read and write to your workspace from a different interface entirely.
